Hi! I’m David but my daughter-in-law calls me Pappy. I learned woodworking as a teenager in a woodshop on the farm of my best friend. Power tools weren’t as fancy or as accurate as they are today, but we made do, building a bird house hotel that we mounted on top of a telephone pole among other things. That’s where I learned to work wood as well as other life skills. Even today, it fills my life with a sense of accomplishment and frustration but I love it.

As far as working wood, I don’t have any professional training. I learned woodworking as a teenager in a woodshop on the farm of my best friend. My friend’s shop had what we called a swing saw, mounted on the wall above a long workbench. It was a homemade job and would only cut a 90 degree angle, but it got a lot of use. Together we built chicken coops, rabbit pens, and many other things necessary for farm living. In case you’re wondering, I also more refined projects requiring more precise skills. That’s where I learned to work wood as well as other life skills. Even today, it fills my life with a sense of accomplishment, frustration, among other things, but I love it.
